Tutorial: How to Set Up Your Activist Website on Canada420

Edit: YouTube doesn’t like the .swf file I uploaded. I’ll add the video once I get it converted.

Quick summary of this tutorial:

  • To create a blog, login to the site and go to the My Blogs dropdown, then Create Blog. If you already have one on the site (Feel free to create multiple!), it should be listed in the dropdown already.
    • Note: Please don’t use CITYNAME.canada420.org as your blog domain unless you represent your city’s local activist group. If your city doesn’t have one yet, by all means, please start one! That’s one of the main reasons this community is here!
  • From the My Blogs dropdown, you can get to your blog’s dashboard by hovering over it and clicking “Dashboard”. You can also start a new post from here, as well as change your theme and moderate comments.
  • From the dashboard, you can create new posts by select “New Post” from the “Posts” left sidebar element.
  • By clicking the “Settings” left sidebar module, you can change your blog’s tagline and timezone. Changing the tagline is useful because it’s pretty lame by default and shows up in the header of most templates.
  • Clicking “Appearance” in the left sidebar will open up the Themes Manager. Clicking on a theme will show a preview of what your site will look like, from which point you can either click the X to go back to the theme listing, or “Activate” to apply the theme to your site.
  • Most themes have areas enabled for widgets. Some have a default set installed by default; if you add widgets using the Widgets page in Appearance, these will be replaced by whatever you put there.
  • To add a widget to the sidebar, drag it from the widget listing to the desired sidebar in Appearance’s “Widgets” page. To remove one from a sidebar, just click the module and drag it to the main widget listing. Your site will update automatically.
